The basic rules of human conduct are formulated in many languages and many times in history.

Very clear are the five rules of Yama - the disciplines human conduct - which is the first element of the Way of Yoga:

  • non-violece - ahimsa - Gewaltlosigkeit
  • truthfullness - satya - Wahrhaftigkeit
  • non-stealing - asteya - nicht stehlen
  • act in the conciousness of the source of the creation - brahmacarya - handeln im Bewusstsein der Quelle aus der wir kommen
  • modesty - aparigraha - Anspruchslosigkeit

The Sandilya Upanishad? lists ten forbearances: Ahimsa, Satya, Asteya, Brahmacharya, Daya, Arjava, Kshama, Dhriti, Mitahara and Saucha.
