BatteryManagementSystem

Lithium batteries need a battery management system to stop the charging current, if one of the cells exceeds a certain voltage.

There is a open source "solar battery management system" the "electrodacus", that can manages lithium iron cells and directly manages the solar charging and active balancing of the single battery cells.

This is also a really small and suitable solution for a BMS:

Overkill BMS

If you match the voltage of your battery to your solar panel (e.g. a 24 V battery block to an 32 V open circuit solar panel) and you have an battery management system, that prevents your battery from overcharging, undervoltage, low temperature charging... you can build a system without an MPPT charge controller.
