Dioscorea Batatas (also called "chinese yam" or "cinnamon-vine") is a medicinal and nutritional plant from northern Japan. It withstands temperatures in winter up to minus 20 degrees celsius and can be used as a vegetable. It is a candidate for urban grown health food. According to the traditional chinese medicine, it has a unique effect on the human body. I don't know what it does exactly. So we should clear this with a expert.

In the anthroposophic perspective the diascorea Batatas is an important crops of the future. Rudolf Steiner called it "Lichtwurzel" (engl. "light root") and claimed, it has a unique effect on the human subtle body.
